I've been using this straightener frequently (at least 4 times a week) for almost three years, and don't plan to stop. It's one of the few things I've ever owned that I believe is virtually indestructible! I'm clumsy and tend to drop it quite a bit, and I've never done more than scratch it on a rough floor.
I also love my straightener because it smoothes my frizzy hair and keeps it smooth and straight in my high-humidity, windy city. My hair stays straight and rarely becomes damaged or gets split ends. I have naturally fine, curly hair, but a lot of it. Typically, it takes a long time to get it 'just right', but I can do my hair in ten minutes with this straightener. I use it every other day if not daily and I will never use anything else! It's survived travel, everyday use, and everything in between for years. Whenever my friends are with me they choose to use my straightener instead of their expensive CHIs.

My step-mom owns this product, and I've used it about three times. I know it may not be much to leave a review, but I needed to.

I have stubborn, thick, Asian hair. I've always used a CHI flat iron, but the ceramic on my CHI plates starting peeling. I always swore that a CHI was the only flat iron that could straighten my hair. My step-mom has wavy to curly hair and she recommend that I use this Remington when I had forgotten my straightener one day. I did, and boy was it nice!

I like that this flat iron has a heat adjustment. I use a spray heat protector for my hair, so I'm not too worried about the damage. I was able to straighten my hair so quick and easily! One fell swoop and I was done! My hair felt so soft afterwards!

I love this product, and recommend it as an alternative to those who can't afford an expensive flat-iron.

The only downside is that it's pretty tough to not hit the on-off and temp. buttons while straightening your hair. But I could get over that since it did such a great job. :)

Pros:
*Nice and hot
*The plates are floating, so you get full contact with the hair
*The part where your hand grips the flat iron doesn't get hot to the touch like some irons that have poorly placed heating elements.
*It doesn't rip your hair out
*It gets the hair nice and straight

Cons:
*The buttons to adjust temperature are impossible not to hit while you are using it. It's pretty annoying.
*The texture on the plates is average. It's not super smooth, but just average coarseness.

I think this flat iron is a real deal at just $50. If they find a way to move the temperature buttons I would give it 5 stars. If it had smoother plates this iron would easily sell for 3x the price (not to me, though...I'm cheap). I LOVE that it doesn't yank out the hair, which even some more expensive irons do. Good buy, I'm happy with it.

I read the glowing reviews of this product and thought I couldn't go wrong. Let me first say that I have a Remington Wet 2 Dry (2") that has worked well for over a year so I was confident that Remington products were high quality - for what it's worth, this iron does seem to be higher quality than some of the other irons out there.

With that said, here's why I'm taking it back:

1. Dual voltage? NOPE. Even though THIS VERY WEBSITE says that it's dual voltage and the PDF version of the manual above says it's dual voltage, once I had freed this thing from the plastic and cardboard prison I saw that it in fact is NOT dual voltage. Since I was specifically looking for this feature, this is strike one.

2. I wanted a flat iron that would straighten and also curl/wave, and didn't find that this product did either satisfactorily. It does not provide a 'smooth' finish; rather, it got 'stuck' on my hair and I ended up with those annoying 'flat iron' lines down each piece of hair. Strike two.

3. After using this TWICE (twice!!!) when I pushed the power button and upped the heat to 390 to see if it would perform any better, it wouldn't heat up. Instead, the thing shut itself off. Once I finally got it to stay on and heat up, I locked the buttons. Unfortunately, the buttons somehow became unlocked within the first few minutes of my using the iron, and the heat went up to 410. I don't really want to deal with a dangerous flaw like that, so that makes strike three.

As we all know, three strikes and you're out. This thing is going back to Walmart this week and I'll find a TRUE dual voltage flat iron that works well. I'm not sure how all of the other reviewers got such miraculous results with this, but I sure didn't.

A little info about my hair: it's naturally wavy, not necessarily curly, and somewhat frizzy. Maybe for this to work well, you have to have majorly curly and frizzy hair. . . .

No, I do not recommend this product.

I love the straightener but it takes me like 5 attempts to get the straightener to stay on. Is there a trick to it maybe for safety reasons?? The light comes on and the degree blinks but then it turns off? Its really annoying. Can someone please help me???

I just bought this yesterday and I'm having the same problem with it turning itself off while it is heating up. Under the Question/Answer page someone else wrote about this issue and customer service said to contact the warranty department for a replacement. I do agree that it is a great straightner (when it stays on)

The best flat iron on the planet!! Beats expensive flat irons in todays market!! Well worth the $50 and does an amazing job out of this world!! The Warranty is lovely and no other product can top that. If you lost your receipt no worries!! They go off the model number info and send you a BN one after you ship it back to them. The flat iron will dull over in time and fade but the quality remains unharmed! Ladies go out and invest on this great item. Silky smooth hair with extreme high gloss effect;)

i have this flat iron but mine is a different color, i absolutelly love mine its just great everyone that has used mine has said mine was better than theres and they have the CHI and they have all the expensive ones and one of them went and bought one so i would recommed this to anyone!!! This is my first hair straightener and I decided to buy one which is not too expensive but not so cheap. This straightener is a smart decision. I cannot be happier with this one. My hair looks stronger and smoother than ever. I feel more confident when I go out with non frizzy hair.

Any 1 inch flat iron will do. Find the right temp. to straighten your hair, but don't turn it up all the way, thin hair is quicker to straighten so the lower the temp the better it is for your type of hair. Hope that helped, Good luck!

Yes this product does work with a 220/240 volt supply. You should not have to buy an adapter and it doesn't have a switch for it. It should automatically convert over to work with the supply.

I bought this SS9951 product for my sister and thought it was dual voltage but it just says 120V 60Hz 117W and 120V 60Hz 40W.

Why did this flat iron completely change my hair?
