IS IPL FOR ME?

Is i-LIGHT Pro Right for You?

The i-LIGHT Pro is designed for both women and men who want the freedom of professional hair removal at home. Watch the video to the right to determine your skin type and decide if the i-LIGHT Pro system is right for you.

What is Your Skin Type?
To determine if your skin type is suitable to use with i-LIGHT Pro, refer to this Skin Tone Chart. Test skin color in each intended treatment area – different areas can have different skin tones.

What to expect

As colors on monitors vary, reference the Skin Tone Chart on your packaging
or in your Use & Care Guide.

What is Your Hair Color?

Since light energy works by targeting melanin, or dark coloring in hair, the i-LIGHT Pro works best on naturally black or brown hair. Do not use i-LIGHT Pro on white or gray hair because it will not work. IPL is less effective on lighter colors, such as blond or red hair.

What Body Parts is i-LIGHT Pro Right for?

Intended for use by women and men on body hair below the neck, including:

• legs
• underarms
• bikini line / groin area
• chest
• stomach
• arms

It has NOT been cleared in the U.S. for use on the face, head, ears, or neck. Using light-based devices intended for body hair is NOT recommended above the neck, as facial hairs have a greater density & follicle depth and require a specially-calibrated device.

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the I-LIGHT Pro sold at retailers?
Yes. You can find the i-LIGHT Pro at the Following retailers:

Can I still use the i-LIGHT Pro if I have a tan?
If your skin has been sun tanned since the last time you used the system, your skin may be too dark to treat. You may need to wait until the sun tan fades to continue your hair removal treatments. Use the SKIN TONE SENSOR to determine if skin in the intended treatment area is too dark to treat. Do NOT use on areas in which you have a sun burn.

How do I know when to replace the disposable cartridge of my i-LIGHT Pro?
Each cartridge lasts for 1,500 flashes, which should be enough for 2-3 full-body treatments**. When a disposable cartridge has reached 90% of its possible lifetime the cartridge status indicator will turn yellow indicating that the disposable cartridge should soon be replaced. Once all 1,500 flashes in a disposable cartridge have been used, the cartridge status indicator will flash yellow indicating that further flashes cannot be delivered. In order to continue the hair removal session, it will now be necessary to replace the disposable cartridge. You can order one at your local retailer or online.
**Lower legs, underarms and bikini area.

Will my hair ever grow back again on the area of skin that I used the i-LIGHT Pro?
Individual results will vary. However, in our clinical testing, on average, participants have 47.8% fewer hairs six months after just three treatments. With additional maintenance treatments, results will generally last even longer. Hair re-growth will also tend to be finer and lighter. Do not use the i-LIGHT Pro on any area where you may someday want your hair to grow back. The results could be permanent and irreversible.

How long does it take for my hair to naturally fall out and stop growing?
Within a few weeks after initial treatment regimen, hairs in the treatment area will naturally fall out on their own!

What is i-LIGHT Pro? What is Intense Pulse Light (IPL)?
Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, is very similar to laser hair removal technology in that both use light energy to selectively target melanin in hair to disable the hair growth mechanism. Light based devices have been clinically tested and proven in dermatologists' offices for over 15 years and are now available for consumers to use in their own homes. I-LIGHT Pro is the ONLY At-Home IPL device with ProPulse™ Technology, featuring output parameters and results similar to professional devices.

Who can use i-LIGHT Pro?
The i-LIGHT Pro can be used by both men and women, but is not intended for everyone. If your skin tone is too dark, the light cannot distinguish between skin and hair color. Therefore, only individuals with white, ivory, tan, beige, and light brown skin tone should use the device. If your skin is too dark or too tanned for treatment, do NOT use the i-LIGHT Pro. Refer to the Skin Tone chart to help determine if you can use the i-LIGHT Pro.
The i-LIGHT Pro works best on black, dark brown, and medium brown hair colors, and is less effective on red or light blond hairs. I-LIGHT will NOT work on grey or white hairs. Use the Chart on the Is IPL for Me page to determine if the i-LIGHT Pro will work for you.

What areas of my body can I treat with i-LIGHT Pro?
i-LIGHT Pro is designed to be used on areas below the neck, including the legs, underarms, bikini line, arms, stomach and chest . DO NOT use if you have tattoos or permanent makeup. NEVER use on dark brown or black spots such as moles, birth marks or freckles. DO NOT USE on the face or neck!

What can I expect from i-LIGHT Pro?
i-LIGHT Pro is clinically-proven and FDA-cleared to remove unwanted hair using IPL technology. While individual results may vary, in clinical testing, on average, participants had 47.8% less hair six-months after just three treatments, similar to results observed from professional hair removal systems.

How often should I use i-LIGHT Pro?
In the initial regimen, for each body part being treated you should use i-LIGHT Pro once every two weeks for three sessions. Repeat the process for each new body part being treated. After that, use i-LIGHT Pro whenever you start to see hair regrowth. Do not treat the same body part more often than every two weeks.

How long do treatments take?
Time varies based on the size of the area being treated, but one full leg should take no more than 15 minutes.

What are the risks involved with i-LIGHT Pro?
Like any electronic device it is important that you read and follow the operating instructions, including Benefits/Risks, Warnings and Contraindications. Please refer to the Use & Care Guide for more information.

What to expect

When will I begin to see results?
After your initial treatment regimen, it may take a few weeks for hairs in the treated area to fall out. Early on, hair may sometimes appear to be growing back after treatment but many of these hairs will begin to fall out after two weeks. Hair grows in a cycle of 3 different phases which can last anywhere from 18-24 months. Only hairs in the anagen phase are affected by the light treatments, which is why multiple treatments are required for optimal results. The results are generally noticeable within a few weeks of the first treatment.

Why is my hair growing despite treatments?
After your initial treatment, it may appear that hairs are continuing to grow, when they are just being "pushed out". Continue with the treatment regimen and you'll start to see results within a few weeks.

Why can't I use i-LIGHT Pro after recent sun exposure?
Sun exposure causes high levels of melanin to be present and exposes the skin to higher risk of burns or blisters following treatment.

What are the warnings against using i-LIGHT Pro?
Certain conditions may limit your ability to use the unit. Please read the Warnings and Safety Precautions section in the User & Care Guide in its entirety before using i-LIGHT Pro.

How often do I need to replace the bulb?
Every person has different hair removal needs – the i-LIGHT Pro was designed to flexibly allow you to only buy the number of flashes you need, easily share with friends and family, and ensure you always have a fresh bulb. Each i-LIGHT cartridge can deliver 1500 light flashes regardless of the energy level setting, which should be enough for 2-3 full-body treatments**. When a disposable cartridge has reached 90% of its possible lifetime the cartridge status indicator light will turn yellow, indicating that the cartridge should be replaced soon. Once all 1500 flashes have been used the cartridge life indicator will flash yellow and further flashes cannot be delivered. You must replace the bulb.
** Lower legs, underarms and bikini line.

Can I use i-LIGHT Pro on my face?
No. i-LIGHT Pro should NOT be used on the face or the neck because these areas may have more sensitive skin. Doing so could cause serious and permanent eye damage.

How do I care for treated areas following treatment?
Try to avoid prolonged, unprotected sun exposure to the treated areas, as your skin in the treatment area may be more sensitive following treatment.

Should I suspend normal activity after using i-LIGHT Pro?
There is no need to suspend normal activity following treatment assuming no abnormal complications occur. However, we recommend that you perform the treatment prior to going to bed so that any redness fades by morning.

Is i-LIGHT Pro dangerous for the skin after long term use?
Light-based devices have been used in a clinical setting for over 15 years. There have not been any reported side effects or skin damage from long-term use of lasers or intense pulse light.

How often should I treat with i-LIGHT?
We recommend an initial regimen of three treatments, spaced 2 weeks apart. You should avoid treating the same area multiple times in one session, as it will not improve efficacy but increases the risk of skin irritation. After the initial regimen, use i-LIGHT Pro as needed for any hair re-growth (which should be thinner and finer).

Can I use i-LIGHT if I have blonde, red, gray or white hairs?
i-LIGHT Pro works best on darker hair types because it contains more melanin, the pigment that gives hair and skin its color. Melanin absorbs the light energy used during i-LIGHT Pro treatment. Black and dark brown hairs respond the best. Brown and light brown hairs will also respond, but typically require more treatments. Red hairs may show some response. White, grey or blonde hairs usually don't respond to i-LIGHT treatments, although some users have noted results after multiple treatments.

Can I use i-LIGHT if I have naturally dark or tanned skin?
No. i-LIGHT Pro is designed to react with the dark pigment of the hair. As a result, dark brown and black skin may absorb too much of the device's energy (heat), which may cause skin damage. Do not use i-LIGHT Pro on naturally dark or tanned skin, as it may contain too much melanin. Treating skin that is too dark with i-LIGHT could cause skin swelling, temporary blisters or skin color changes. Review the skin color chart on the"Is IPL for Me" page to determine if i-LIGHT Pro is right for you. Make sure to test skin in each intended treatment area.

Do I need eye protection while using i-LIGHT Pro?
No, when used as directed. I-LIGHT Pro should NOT be used on the Face or near the Eyes. I-LIGHT Pro features integrated contact sensors which help prevent unintentional flashing when the device is not flush with the skin. The small amount of light emitted during treatment is similar to that of a camera flash and is not harmful to the eyes, unless it is directed to the face.

Can I use i-LIGHT Pro if I am pregnant or nursing?
No. i-LIGHT Pro has not been tested on pregnant women, therefore we do not recommend using i-LIGHT if you are pregnant or breast feeding. Hormonal changes could increase sensitivity and the risk of injury to the skin.
