Excellent value overall This is my fourth Short Cut clipper and I remain very satisfied. I had issues with one of the first one I had which was that it lost its ability to recharge quite early, but not within its warranty period. Another one lost its charging light, but still would charge..Other than that I certainly think its a good product. June 27, 2014
This product has poor durability I have owned at least 8 short cut clippers since I started cutting my hair very short about 5 years ago. Some I purchased at retail stores and others through the Remington website. I like the clipper's features very much but it does not hold up for long. With every clipper I've had they have developed switch issues and stop running, usually within 6 months. I continue to buy them hoping that the next one will last longer. They are reasonably priced so that compared to the cost of a haircut I'm still getting my money out them but it is frustrating that they seem so non-durable. June 25, 2014
One-of-a-kind product I have been cutting my hair very short for several years. Don't want to shave my head because you have to do it every day. This is my third short cut clipper and it is the quickest, most efficient way to maintain my short style, however, like some other owners, I have had problems with the battery/charging system. I just received my new one and it works fine. It charges in no time, blue light is on during charging, off when charged, just like the previous two. Within a few months of purchase they changed. The blue light did not come on at all and the red light was the only light that I ever saw. It took several hours to charge completely and eventually would not turn on at all. The charger is a little different with the new one so hopefully, the problem is solved. June 19, 2014

Not sure why I'm willing to do Remington's job for free, but on the box it shows lengths between 1/8 - 1/2".

Also not sure why no one else could just answer your question, and do it accurately, but used your thread to opine on other things, instead. Anyway, hope that helps!

Answer: 
Hair length settings are 1, 1.5, 2, 3 & 4. Much faster and easier than the standard clipper. However I also use the standard clipper for finishing touches after cutting with the curved clipper.

I purchased a Shortcut a couple years ago and it is a great grooming tool; however, since the very beginning I have eperienced problems recharging the battery. It takes an inordinate amount of time to recharge (12 hrs plus) and the charge lasts less than one or two minutes when the item is used. To continue, one must recharge for another 30 seconds to get about as much time in use. After researching this problem online I found out it is very common, yet it has not been addressed by Remington. I truly like the trimmer and would like to purhcase another one, but only if I can be assured that this obvious problem has been resolved. Would you advice?

I've had mine for years and it went slower and slower and I was about to order a new one until I found the post about removing the cover and cleaning it. Clogged is an understatement. Used a screwdriver to shift most of the hair and then an aerosol dust remover. Splash of WD40 and it goes like a race car. Try it.

My SCC-100R purchased in April 2009 came back to life after un-freezing the clipper.

While looking at blades facing up, and un-snapping a thin plastic blade cover on left, the blade armature was moved foreward using a medium screwdriver. It moves back a bit by itself if the blades are clean & lubed.

After hearing it try to start with each button press & blink of the red LED, pushing the reciprocating part foreward got it started. Adding oil made it go faster. Clipped hair dries up the lub, but the sound changes to a higher pitch as lub is added.

Higher-voltage cord & plug power may overcome blade friction issues, but the lower torque battery may not be considered out of spec. until verified by examination, and failures after 2-years may not be considered a warranty issue.

When manufacterers replace units under warranty, as a customer service issue, further product development may not be justified. Competitors may also avoid similar attemps, especially if patent-infringement liability existis during the first 17 years.

As perhaps the simplest clipper available to groom my balding head, the desire to avoid the barber is matched by equal desire to propery care for this tool.

I bought this unit directly from the company last month and only used the clipper a couple of times.. the charge did last more than one cut but suddenly the unit stopped charging. I thought maybe it's the charger so tried a universal charger that I have and still won't work... Great clipper but I don't think the charging issue is resolved.. Going to contact their warranty department. Really disappointed about that.

i just purchased my third trimmer. my first one i've had for 5 years and it will still work if i hold the power button half way in. kinda like if you hold a light switch in the middle so that the light dims. but it takes about 50 trys to get it to power on.
i got a new one last Christmas and it worked once and now won't even take a charge. i'm hoping the third one is the charm. i wish they would fix the problem and put this trimmer back on the shelves i would use it the rest of my life. beats going to great clips!

No and this is a very annoying feature because as the battery gets weaker which it will if you keep it plugged in 24/7 the device is useless. I advise to charge it only when necessary. The battery would keep a charge for a week of daily usage. At least it did for me.

I have had the same problem with two of these. My suggestion is to complain and then just but another. Use remington.com and get it on line. The shipping is free and the cost cheaper than in a retail store. Also if you search 'on line' there are 10% discount coupons/codes at coupon sites that can be used with the online order.

18-24 months seems to be the life span if used frequently. The having to tap to get it to work is irritating. Did you charging light indicator stop working at the same time. In both instances mine did. Onlyproblem is that once you start tapping.you have to tap more frerquently.

but it is otherwise a great product at a good price.

Removed blade guard, cannot get it back in

I removed the blade guard on the Remington Shortcut in order to clean inside, however, I have not been able to get the guide to seat properly when I try to reinstall it. Is there a trick to this?

Yes there is a trick to it, I had a bit of a struggle myself putting mine back together. I don't remember the details but it had to do with the blade position I think it has to be out all the way and then snap the cover in then retract. Sorry that is as much help as I can be.

Before I become disgruntled and buy my third 100R because the battery has died, I would love to know that Remington is actually listening to the overwhelming feedback from other customers who love your product but won't recommend it because the battery life is so poor.

By not telling us that you are doing something about it (other than send it back under warrantee) you get the feeling that you have built in a rapid redundancy into this product so we have to keep buying replacement units.

If there was an equivalent product elsewhere that was 50% more expensive but had an industry standard battery life then I would definitely stop rebuying this product and I would tell all of my balding and bearded mates to do the same.

So, is there an improved battery on the way?

Well, it's about time. The pathetic electronics in this has been common knowledge for almost 4 years with Remington in a total state of public denial. At Amazon there are over 125 (!) one star reviews relating to that. One of them is mine in 2009. That year I returned three under warranty and for the third I got a refund instead of another unit - clearly it was obvious they could not send me a good product. In the meantime, we'll just hold our breath for the "next generation." Thank you and good luck with that.
