A big part of preventing breakouts is keeping your skin healthy, and the sun is a major culprit of skin damage. A sunburnt face can take awhile to heal. And in the time that it’s healing, it can be painful to wash your face every day, and that can lead to breakouts. The problem compounds itself.
To prevent that cycle of skin damage, wear a daily facial moisturizer with SPF 15-30. They’re typically light enough so that you won’t notice the feel or smell of sunscreen, but you’ll still reap all the benefits.
For longer days in the sun, you can bump up to a sunscreen with SPF 50, which can protect you for hours. (Anything higher than SPF 50 is usually unnecessary.)
